- Pediatric Waiting Rooms: A Haven for Germs: A recent study presented at a joint meeting of the American Society for Microbiology and the Infectious Diseases Society of America confirmed what parents have long suspected?toys in the pediatrician?s waiting room could be exposing children to cold viruses. One in five of the toys sampled tested positive for rhinoviruses or influenza B, according to the researchers. And even more concerning is that cleaning the toys provided only modest germ-killing effect.

- Study Calls For Earlier AIDS Treatment: HIV patients should begin antiretroviral treatments earlier than what current guidelines recommend, according to a new study presented by physician and HIV/AIDS specialist Mari Kitahata of the University of Washington in Seattle. The study that involved more than 8,000 HIV patients suggests doctors should rethink the standard practice of HIV treatment.
- Rotavirus vaccines significantly reduces hospitalizatio ns in U.S.: According to a report prepared by researchers, when children with rotavirus infection are administered (orally) diarrhea vaccines a remarkable improvement in their health can be seen. When this was done, lesser hospitalizatio ns by up to 70 percent were reported in some areas of the United States which also prevented unnecessary spending of money.
- Experimental antibiotics help against "superbug": Two experimental antibiotics appear to work safely against an increasingly common and dangerous form of infection called methicillin-re sistant Staphylococcus aureus or MRSA, researchers said on Sunday. Doctors are clamoring for drugs that can fight the so-called superbug infection, which kills an estimated 19,000 people a year in the United States alone.
- New, more efficient anti-AIDS drug for untreated patients: Medical researchers on Sunday unveiled clinical trials of new anti-AIDS drug that better controls the spread of the deadly virus among previously untreated patients. Developed by US pharmaceutical giant Merck and Co, Isentress is the first of a new type of anti-AIDS medication called HIV integrase inhibitor, based on the enzyme that controls HIV virus reproduction.
